Hello, my name is Corey Ward, I like to take impossible ideas and make them real. I turned an idea for a food tent into a national restaurant franchise with Tom+Chee, pitching it successfully on Shark Tank, and opening 35 locations across the country. I've been a fan of Shark Tank before it was even called Shark Tank—back when it was Canada's The Dragons' Den. As soon as Tom+Chee started selling grilled cheese out of a tent, I began pitching the concept to Shark Tank producers. Eighteen months later, we got the call and ended up appearing in seven episodes!
In high school I created an art studio with friends, we taught classes and created everything from rough animations to murals. Wanting to increase our exposure I started sending out press releases, that caught the attention of a syndicated Saturday afternoon TV show Kids Like Me. After the feature aired, class attendance spiked so much that we had to add a second class just to keep up. Even back then, I knew how to use media to grow a brand.
From Man vs. Food to Shark Tank, and everything in between, Tom+Chee caught the attention of local news and national TV.
By sharing our story through these platforms, we were able to spread the word far and wide. When you have a strong concept, people naturally want to tell your story—and that’s what happened with Tom+Chee.
Tom+Chee Logo Design
Tom+Chee was envisioned as a fun, family friendly, fast causal restaurant brand, that featured an innovative menu full of creative flavor combinations.
We opened with no freezers or fryers; all of our soups, sauces and meats were prepared in-house, making for some of the best hand-crafted grilled cheese around.
We also invented the Grilled Cheese Donut!
Tom+Chee Interior Posters
I designed the interiors for each of our Tom+Chee locations, giving them a look and feel of the original location, while also pushing the concept forward each time.
Tom+Chee Seasonal Marketing
We designed seasonal marketing campaigns that included digital and printed assets. including: posters, window clings, and mailers, plus social media content and outreach programs.
Tom+Chee Digital Menu
This is the design for our digital menu, it replicates the look of our original chalk board menu.
We published a yearly catalog, seasonal supplements, as well as postcards and other marketing materials aimed at retailers and potential licensors.
I designed a wide range of products; from stickers, patches, and wristbands to phone cases and floor mats. I worked closely with manufacturers around the world to be sure our products met the high standards of our licensors and our customers.
We published novelty playing card decks based on popular sports teams, pop culture themes as well as political decks.
I created multiple brands while at Parody Productions, including a puzzle line called Rainy Day Puzzles.
Logo Design for People Want Games, a brand I'm building to showcase different board games I've created.
These are logos for the first of my games: The Butterfly Braid and The Abacus Braid are card games from the same line
